Short, Sloppy Defense of Organic Writing, AI Usefulness, or Both

While I have said AI can be used as a tool, I do not believe it should ever replace the writing process.

Writing should be a methodical yet organic creative process. It may not come out as polished as AI tries to do but it's not real. It just isn't. It doesn't come from a human. There's no organic writing. All AI does is borrow from human capital to create.

The fact that some have subjected themselves to let AI craft some prose is not only beyond lazy, it's beyond troubling. They are letting a tool do all the work than rather using the tool to help them better craft their creation. They are losing out on the value of hard work, the revelation of trial and error, the journey of creating and pouring life into something, and the guantlet of rewriting and editing. They are losing out what it means to be human, an image bearer of God.

I'm not an alarmist where I believe AI will eventually take over everything. I don't believe it ever will. Why? Christ is King and rules over all the universe, including over AI. But if He allowed AI to do so to judge us for our folly, I still believe it will hit a dead-end.

We don't need AI to survive. But AI does. Humanity has existed and thrived before it. Humanity will continue to exist and thrive after AI, if it ever disappears. But AI didn't exist before it was created by humanity. And it will die if humanity ceases to exist.

AI is a digital vampire that sucks the blood of human knowledge and creativity to sustain itself, where it continues to allure so it can feed on us some more.

Does this mean AI is pure evil and must be shunned? No! I see it as a powerful tool that can aid human work and creativity. For now, I don't favor any efforts to eliminate AI, unless it is really trying to kill us. However, like many inventions, people and organization without scruples abuse AI. It angers me when these vapid people eliminate artists, designers, and writers and replace them with AI because they worship mammon. May their AI slop collapse on them for their evil.

So where do I draw the line between using AI and doing the hard work as a technical writing and....write?

I use AI for research and troubleshooting. I do not completely trust its answers for I have found them false at times. So I try to do my due diligence and verify the information given. However, it has saved me time when I use to scour the Internet regarding a subject or a how-to to format something. It has made me more effective as a technical writer.

Where I don't use AI is creating the structure of a document and filling in the content. That is all organic. I love the process. As I'm documenting something, it never ceases me to amaze me on the insights gained along the way. Sometimes, I change my structure completely and the content I was going to add because of what I discover. You couldn't find this otherwise using AI prompts. Any technical writer worth their salt should be able to structure, write, and edit content mostly on their own.

So there you have it, a short sloppy defense of organic writing or AI's usefulness. Or Both. Take your pick.

If you're looking for a fiery polemic or an organized tome without the sprinkles of religious fanaticism, I'm not your guy. I'm just a simple technical writer who loves King Jesus and tries to upkeep this little ole blog that no one reads. But what do I know?
